Hornby GWR The Flying Dutchman Train Pack
R2706
The Dean Single is the old Tri-ang model of 1961 which, year after
year, carried only one name - Lord of the Isles. Nice though the name was, it
seemed as though we would never see any other members of Dean's 'Achilles' Class. Ever
when the model returned in 2007, after a 25 year rest in the tool store, it carried the
old name. However, after a bit of 'moaning to the management' and foot-stamping, I was
delighted with the arrival of first Lorna Doone and now 3050 Royal Sovereign.
The model still suffers from the physical limitations of the original one, such as too
much daylight above the front bogie, but the finish now on the models is well in advance
of what it was in the past.
The model, when first released in 1961 (and subsequently) was provided with two short GWR clerestory coaches which were always rather toy-like. In the current train pack, which is marketed as 'The Flying Dutchman', the loco is partnered by three of the better looking clerestory coaches introduced in 1982. These are, of course in GWR chocolate and cream livery and are numbered 1895, 1896 and 2085, the last being a brake 3rd.
