Hornby 6-Plank C&G Ayres 406 R6341A6-Plank CG Ayres.jpg (27171 bytes)

The 6-plank wagon arrived in 1995 and the first version in C&G Ayres livery was in the 2007 catalogue. That carried the number 400. It has now been re-released with the number 406. The body is deep green with a broad yellow band (3 planks) carrying the company's name.

No.400 was based on an actual 6-plank wagon in this livery which was built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company in 1910 and was one of 10 wagons ordered at that time. It is therefore assumed that 606 would have been identical. The rectangular plate under the 'G' gives the load capacity as 10 tons while the oval to the right is a builders plate, which is unusually on the body rather than just the solebars. C&G Ayres was founded in 1829 and had a long association with the GWR.
