Hornby Rebuilt Bulleid Light Pacifics4-6-2 WC Class.jpg (46091 bytes)

In response to requests from the public, Hornby introduced their 'Rebuilt West Country' and 'Battle of Britain' locomotives in 2006. Since then, five versions of the West Country and five of the Battle of Britains have been released. The model sells well and one cannot help but be reminded of the Hornby Dublo model of 1961 which was so welcomed at the time. The current models are R2708 in late BR green as 34008 Padstow and R2709 also in late BR green as 34058 Sir Frederick Pile. Neither model has warning flashes.4-6-2 BB Class.jpg (50448 bytes)

As for the real locomotives on which the models are based, Padstow was built in September 1945 and rebuilt I July 1960. It survived through to June 1967 after which it was scrapped. Sir Frederick Pile was built in March 1947 and rebuilt in November 1960. It was withdrawn in October 1964 and found its way to Woodham's yard at Barry. There it was rescued for preservation after 21 years and 3 months in the scrapyard.
