Hornby introduced their model of a rebuilt Patriot last year and the latest release
brings the number produced so far to five. The most recent release is 45528 REME
(R2727) in late BR green livery but without warning flashes. The models come with separate
brake rods, front steps, front NEM coupling, cylinder drain-cocks, vac pipes and imitation
articulated couplings supplied in a bag for the customer to fit. None of these have been
fitted to the models in the photographs.
The rebuilding of patriots started in 1946 and stopped in 1949 after 18 had been converted. REME, which had been built in April 1933, was rebuilt in August 1947. It went on to give more than 15 years service before being withdrawn in January 1963.
Two Rebuilt Patriots which were released last year and were not available to review
were 45512 Bunsen (R2634) with early BR
insignia and 45545 Planet (R2633) with late insignia and warning flashes. Bunsen
was built in September 1932 and rebuilt in July 1948 and so went straight into BR livery
after the rebuilding. Planet was built in March 1934 and rebuilt in October 1948.
This also would not have seen LMS livery in its rebuilt state.
