Hornby were rightly determined to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Mallard establishing the World Steam Speed Record in 1938 and what better way of doing so than to produce a special gold plated version of their Class A4 locomotive model in the livery of the time. The model has gold plated metalwork and comes with a length of track with gold plated rails. It is sold with a smart dark blue lift-off lid box, suitably printed and lined in white silk. The loco itself has valances, is in Garter blue livery and has a corridor-less tender. There is also a numbered certificate which fits inside the box indication that 5000 of the model have been produced.
