Graham Farish 7-plank With Coke Rail 377-176ACoke Wagon P368502.jpg (21941 bytes)

Before the Second World War, most coal transportation was in the hands of the collieries and coal merchants but the war brought essential pooling of private wagons for a co-ordinated coal transportation programme. Nationalisation of the railways came in 1948 and those former private owner wagons were taken into state ownership and were painted in BR standard grey. They were given a number in the BR fleet with a prefix of 'P'. to denote their origin but they were scrapped in large numbers during the 1950s and replaced with new steel mineral wagons. Here we have coke wagon P368502. This should be in the shops by late July.
