Hornby Class 101 R2697Class 1-1 BRc green R2697 3.jpg (32571 bytes)

A Class 101 was produced for the Tri-ang Railways system back in 1958 when the units were quite new on the real railways and exciting to young modellers of the time. I recall that it was the model my brother most wanted when we traded-in our Hornby Dublo to invest in a Tri-ang layout. The Tri-ang model survived in the catalogue until 1978 (by then a Hornby Railways model) but was then dropped. When Hornby decided to produce a new DMU model during the 1980s, in an effort to achieve a balanced stud, it was the Class 110 that they chose in 1982. This sufficed until 2006 when Hornby acquired the tooling to Lima's excellent Class 101. The Class 110 was retired and both green and blue versions of the former Lima Class 101 were released by Hornby. These were reissued last year with new numbers and, three years on, we have three more versions planned for this year of which this is the first.

The model illustrated is R2697 in BR green with small yellow panels on the cab fronts. The destination blinds show 'Stratford' and 'Excursion' and the code box 'B4' and 'B1' respectively. The running numbers on the cars are M50320, M59131 and M50338.
