1E Promotionals has released its first Essex wagon in the form of an 8-plank wagon in the livery of J.T. Buxton of Clacton-on-Sea. It is joined by a further Norfolk 7-plank wagon representing Tassell of Kings Lynn.
The original Buxton wagon with this number was built to RCH specification in 1930 and was an 8-plank. The coal merchant whose fleet it belonged to would not have had many wagons and so the number almost certainly refers to the year in which it was built.
Arthur Tassell was a coal merchant based in Kings Lynn, but not a local man, having been born in Liverpool in 1866. He was the sole sales agent for domestic coal for much of East Anglia on behalf of Barber Walker Collieries but also bought coal from other suppliers. As a port, Kings Lynn once had a considerable coal trade both in export and in bunkering the ships that plied the East Coast waters as well as the local fishing fleet.
200 of each wagon has been produced for 1E Promotionals by Dapol and each has a numbered certificate as the box window card.
