Two versions of the Standard BR brake van have been released by Hornby. In the case of both of them the raised mouldings representing handrails and edge of the stepped running boards are picked out in white. The basic model dates from 1982 when it replaced a simpler one that dated from 1967.
The first of these new versions is moulded in lemon yellow plastic and
has large red-brown panels sprayed onto each side, leaving a yellow band at the top. The
outer walls of the verandahs are yellow with black diagonal stripes and the buffer beams
are red-brown. This livery belonged to the Signals & Telecommunications Engineering
Department (S&T) of
British Railways in the early
to mid 1980s. The van (R6408) carries the number KDB954164 and brake pipes are provided
for fitting if required.
The second brake van (R6407) is in olive green and carries the TOPS code ZTR and the word 'Electrification'. It also carries the number LDB954219. The outer walls of the verandahs are painted with yellow and black wasp stripes in a chevron design and the buffer beams are painted yellow.
