The model shows 4771 Green Arrow in its preserved condition at the time that the National Railway Museum retired it from active service, this year, once its boiler certificate had run out. The model was one of the first new locomotives to be tooled up once the UK based Bachmann company had been formed. The first production models arrived in 1992 and, since then, 18 versions have been produced. This one should soon be in the shops.
The Class V2s were developed by Sir Nigel Gresley for express passenger or freight work and first appeared in 1936 - the first off the production line being Green Arrow. They were unusual in being 3-cylinder 2-6-2s. Nearly all the class were nameless but 7 other members were named and carried their names on a curved nameplates over the centre splashers.
