The model of the Fairburn 2-6-4T dates from 2006 and was launched to the model railway press at the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway where the only two surviving examples are to be found. With this year's models, a total of 6 versions have been produced by Bachmann and the current one is a 'weathered' version of 42267 in BR lined black livery with late decals. The model should be in the shops in the second half of July and comes with the brake rods fitted and a bag containing just brake hoses and cylinder drain-cocks for fitting.
In his short period as Chief Mechanical Engineer of the LMS, Fairburn's one contribution to locomotive development was the improvements he made to Stanier's big tank engines to give them greater route availability. Between 1945 and 1951, 277 of these locomotives were built, mostly at Derby but 41 built at Brighton were for use on the Southern Region.
