This much wanted model arrived in 2007 and received a press launch at the East Lancs. Railway in the engine shed at Bury. With the release of all this year's models, the number produced will have risen to eight. This version, 46426 in BR lined black with late decals, is due in the shops in the second half of July. The model comes with brake rods to attach a close-coupling drawbar, front steps, cab doors, brake pipes for the buffer beams and cylinder drain-cocks.
Ivatt had been determined to end the flood of Midland 0-6-0 locomotives, that had been produced in regular batches up to 1941. His idea was to replace them with a Mogul but the new locomotives were not welcomed by everyone as some felt they were little improvement on the 0-6-0s. However, they did provide the crew with better protection. 128 of the locomotives were built, 108 of them by British Railways after Nationalisation. Riddles adopted the design for his Standard 2MT 2-6-0 (also modelled by Bachmann). Being light, they were suitable for branch line working but the introduction of DMUs and the closure of branch lines saw their numbers reduced.
