Hornby BR Ore Wagon R6085FTippler Stone brown.JPG (20382 bytes)

This is one of Hornby's longest surviving wagon models which first appeared in the catalogue in 1979. It is based on tippler wagons which have no doors for emptying but which were turned upside down to empty their load. This year's additions bring to 29 the number of versions of the model produced by Hornby. It carries the number 'B388421'.

They were built in large numbers (over 9,000) by British Railways in the 1950s to replace inherited wooden mineral wagons, as the mineral handling became more mechanised. Most were for the transportation of iron ore but a small number were for chalk traffic.
