Hornby Coronation Duchess of Hamilton R2689
This is the 2001 super-detailed model of the streamlined Princess Coronation Class which is being produced as a special release in co-operation with the National Railway Museum (NRM). This commemorates the work currently being undertaken at Tyseley Locomotive Works to convert 'Duchess of Hamilton' to the LMS streamlined form. The model now has a fixed pony truck and the packaging acknowledges that 2008 is the 70th Anniversary of the Coronation Scot service.
The real loco was built at Crewe in 1937 as one of a limited number of the class to receive the streamlined casing which designer William Stanier was never too happy about. The airflow casing was short lived, being removed during the war to make maintenance easier and it was not replaced. 'Duchess of Hamilton' was one of three members of the class to pass into preservation and forms part of the National Collection.
