Hornby LMS Caledonian Single 14010 R2683Caledonian Single.JPG (23626 bytes)

This is one of the oldest models in the Hornby collection having originally been released in 1963 in its original Caledonian Railway blue livery. It survived in the Tri-ang catalogue for four years before being dropped through lack of sales. It returned in 1971 with a brighter glossy CR blue livery. Until recently, the model's last appearance was in 1983 when it was available, for one year only, as a limited edition in LMS crimson lake livery and was sold in a specially made presentation box.

After 24 years in storage, the tooling was cleaned up last year and a blue liveried CR version produced for a limited edition presentation pack. This had the most detailed livery we had seen so far. This year it returns as a solo model in LMS black paintwork baring its LMS number '14010'. Although dull in appearance compared with last year's beautiful rendition, good attention has been paid to the red lining.

Unlike the model's stable mate, the Dean Single, CR123 was the only member of its class and, beyond the livery changes, there are no further possibilities for the model.

The real locomotive may be found at the Glasgow Museum of Transport.
