Bachmann Ivatt Class 4 2-6-0 32-586DCIvatt_Class_4.JPG (12799 bytes)

Ivatt's Class 4 mixed traffic design of 1947 for the LMS was nicknamed the 'Flying Pig' as it was considered ugly. Certainly, compaired with Stanier's sleeker designs of previous years, it was. However, the locomotive was designed in those austere post-war years when function was more important than beauty and money for frills was in short supply.

The Bachmann model first appeared in 2005 and eight versions of it have been produced so far. 43154 is in ex-works standard BR lined black, with small early insignia on the tender sides. Of the eight models, it is the first we have seen with the tender adapted to show the representation of tablet catchers for single line operation. The model has the single chimney and comes with a decoder chip already fitted.
