Bachmann Standard 4MT 2-6-0 32-952Class_4MT_2-6-0_76079.JPG (13222 bytes)

The Standard 4MT was a Riddles design which was based on Ivatt's 'Mucky Duck' 2-6-0 which he designed for the LMS and which has also been modelled by Bachmann. Whereas Ivatt's design showed the austerity of the immediate post-war years, Riddles engine enjoyed more style. The chimney and cab were both standard British Railways designs.

The locomotives were built for mixed traffic and were constructed at both Doncaster and Horwich. They did service on all regions except the Western, being used on secondary and cross-country passenger duties. The Southern locos had BR1B high-sided tenders holding 4725 gallons and with 10 ton coal capacity. On the other regions they has BR2 and BR2A tenders of 3,500 gallon and 6 ton coal capacity.

The model carries the standard BR lined black livery which was carried by all the class. It has late BR insignia and no warning flashes. The model is in ex-works condition with a BR2 tender. The subject chosen is the preserved '76079'.
