A firm favourite, the BR standard Class 4 2-6-4 tank engine first made its appearance in the Graham Farish catalogue in 1991 and, like most of the later models, is of a good standard in terms of proportion and realism.. Two versions of it appeared before the summer of 2000, one with early BR insignia and the other with late ones. All versions of the tank in BR livery are lined out as was the practice with mixed traffic locomotives.

Bachmann reintroduced the model in 2004 and since then have released six versions of it, this one being '80048' with early insignia. Improvements to the appearance of the model made by Bachmann include smaller wheel flanges and blackened wheels..
