Hornby BR Maunsell Composite Maunsell Comp.JPG (45332 bytes)

The long awaited Maunsell coaches have been greatly welcomed and were well worth waiting for. When Hornby produced what they called their 'regional' coaches in the late 1970s, they were a giant step forward compared with what was available previous to this. The LNER coaches looked like Gresleys, the LMS ones like Staniers and the GWR ones like Colletts. However, when it came to Southern coaches, we receive green Collett coaches with different roofs fitted. Now, at last, we have some excellent true Southern passenger stock to go with the rich array of Southern locomotives Hornby has been releasing.

To date, we have seen only the BR composite coach in both versions - 'S5682S' (R4304A) and 'S5683S' (R4304B). These are 'high window' stock but we understand that Hornby will also be releasing 'low window' versions in the future. The green livery looks right as too does the brown interior unit. The wheels are blackened metal and, as with other recent coaches from Hornby, these come with a pair of alternative low profile couplings for joining the coaches together in sets.
