This is a particularly interesting DC train set for various reasons.
The train is based on one that was assembled for special tours operated by Hertfordshire
Rail Tours and FM Rail. It is painted in the same Nanking blue livery carried by the Blue
Pullman DMUs in the 1960s (as modelled by Tri-ang Hornby at the time), a prototype that
some modellers have been pressuring Hornby to reintroduce. It is also interesting because
the set includes the first example of the ex-Lima Class 47 diesel being reintroduced by
Hornby, presumably as a replacement for their inferior and older model.
The locomotive modelled is 47709 'Dionysos' and the coaches are all the former Airfix Mk2Ds as blue and white Pullman cars numbered '9513' (brake 2nd), '3352' (all 2nd) and '3313' (all 2nd). It has to be said, the finish on these is excellent. Also in the set are an R8217 Trakmat, an oval of 3rd radius curves, a siding with a buffer stop (track pack A), an R8206 power track, C990 wall plug transformer and R965 controller. So here we have an ex-Lima loco with ex-Airfix coaches in a set with Hornby track and accessories!
Also to be available soon will be the R4310 coach pack, to extend the train, with two further Mk2 coaches and a Mk1 brake end - all in the Blue Pullman livery.
