Bachmann 5-plank Wagons5-plk Nathl Atrill.jpg (38031 bytes)

A further two Bachmann private owner 5-plank wagons have left the factory. Both are black and based on the Blue Riband range of open wagons introduced in 1998-99.

The first to arrive was Nathl. Attrill, a coal merchant of Chesterfield (37-059). The wagon is numbered '6' and the lettering is in white, shaded red. The solebar tells us that the wagon was built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company in Smethwick. This wooden floor wagon was one of two built in December 1907 and was used to deliver coal from Butterley Company's Ormond Colliery for domestic customers as well as to the local gas works5 plk Constable Hart.jpg (36801 bytes)

The Constable Hart & Co. wagon (37-032) was based on one built by Charles Roberts & Co. of Wakefield in April 1927 and one of a batch of 100 delivered by them that month. While the above wagon was of 8 ton capacity, this one was of 12 tons and had a steel floor - replicated on the model. The original wagon was probably used for carrying limestone.
