For 37 years we have enjoyed the many different liveries of the Hornby 100T tank wagon without complaining too much about its inaccuracies. Now Bachmann have provided an accurate model with all the underframe detail, more accurate ladders and gantries and superb printing. The sample we received is grey with Shell branding and numbered 'SUKO 87317'. Considering the popularity of the Hornby model, the Bachmann one should run and run.
Coincidentally, when the model railway press visited the Ribble Steam Railway for the launch of Bachmann's Ivatt 2-6-0 Class 2 locomotive, the trip arranged for the party, along the old dockland railway, took us pass several TEAs currently in use for the transportation of tar. There was discussion as to what the body colour had been as it was totally lost beneath spillage stains - a real challenge for Bachmann to duplicate! We await the first 'weathered' version with interest.
