Hornby have released the first of their Class 66 locomotives, using the former Lima tooling. This is in GB Railfreight Medite black and yellow livery as '66709 Joseph Arnold Davies'. The model is quite stunning in this livery with its yellow nameplates which, incidentally, are not printed on but are etched metal additions. Hopefully this method will become normal practice for named locomotives produced by Hornby as they look far better that surface printed names.
Hornby have also been listening to the complaints about limited pulling power with the reintroduced former Lima models. The traction tyres had been left off these in response to complaints from some who did mot like them. Now they are back and '66709' is the first to be fitted with them. The tyres are on only two wheels on one side and are black but they have dramatically improved the pulling power - which was why they had been fitted in the first place!
The model has detailed cab interiors and nicely detailed cab fronts but, for those who want more, there is a bag of detail parts for the purchaser to add.
