Two more Britannia Class models have been released. These are 'Hereward the Wake' (R2619) and 'Lord Rowallan' (R2618). Full detail of the quality of these models was given in the earlier review of 'William Wordsworth' which is still in this review section of the magazine. Both our samples are 'DCC ready' but are also available as 'DCC fitted', i.e. already have decoders fitted
'Hereward the Wake' was 70037 and was built in December 1952. It was
paired with the standard BR1 tender with a water capacity of 4,725 gallons, as seen on
this model. Also correctly modelled are the plain coupling rods. The locomotive was
withdrawn in November 1966 and scrapped. The model has large early BR decals on the tender
sides and has the nameplates painted black.
'Lord Rowallan' entered traffic in June 1954 and had a BR1D 5,000 gallon tender, which has been correctly paired with this model. The locomotive survived almost to the end of steam being withdrawn from service in December 1967 and scrapped. The tender on the model carries late BR decals on its sides but the loco does not have warning flashes on it. The nameplates are painted red and, as a BR1D tender was fitted, the rear cab pillars are missing.
