Hornby NBC 0-6-0ST Wimblebury R2556J94 NCB Wimblebury.jpg (65180 bytes)

This powerful saddle tank design was built in large numbers during the Second World War and by several different locomotive works. It gave the War Department a good stock of tank engines of suitable power to handle much of the additional work that the war brought to the railways. After the war the stock of engines was sold off and a major purchaser was the National Coal Board. Since Hornby acquired the tooling from Dapol, it has produced 19 versions of it including 8 based on actual NCB locomotives. 'Wimblebury' is the latest of these and comes in one of the most striking colours so far.
