This is another book for the British diesel and electric enthusiast - and there can never be too many of them. One of the advantages of books on this subject is that they tend to be in colour and this one is in colour throughout. It is divided into six chapters, which deal with main line diesel locomotives, shunters, prototype machines, diesel multiple units (together with diesel railcars), electric locomotives and, finally, electric multiple units. Its excellent index at the back allows you to locate references to individual locomotives within the main part of the book. This is a feature rarely found in books of this kind. Colin Maggs needs no introduction as he has over 70 books to his name, mostly about railways.
