Known as The Wherry Lines, they took their name from the boats that were once a familiar sight on the Norfolk Broads, through which these branch lines passed. Included are the three Great Eastern lines between Norwich Thorpe and Yarmouth Vauxhall, Brudall Junction to Breydon Junction and Reedham Junction to Lowestoft Central. Also included is the now lost Yarmouth Tramway which served the docks. Excluded are the Yarmouth to Beccles line and the former Yarmouth-Lowestoft joint line connecting with the M&GNJR. This is an area dominated by waterways which were themselves once a commercial transport system and railway crossing points had to ensure that the Wherries were not impeded. The book has its usual excellent format of interesting period pictures, maps of the route, timetables and ticket facsimiles.
