The illustrated railway histories produced by Ian Allan under the OPC imprint are usually very well done and this latest example is no exception. From the coloured maps on the inside of the covers, to the comprehensive text, this is a quality product. The numerous pictures (historic and current), the drawings and tables all add colour to Peter Johnson's text, which has a style that captures the reader's interest. It provides a detailed history of the Snowdon Mountain Railway from its conception to the present day. It follows the line's ups and downs (pun unintended) and its tragedies, but above all it is a success story. The book is a future classic which will serve well as a reference work for years to come.
