Today the name 'Pullman' is used to denote top quality and that was the principle behind the development of a vast number of passenger cars built by the American Pullman Car Company. At the height of the company's influence it was operating over 8,000 cars in America, carrying 39 million passengers per year. The book is about the American company and, despite a passing reference to the British Pullman Car Company, this is not explored in the book. This superbly illustrated volume is destined to be considered a 'classic' in years to come.
Of the authors, two are accomplished writers on railway subjects and the third, Bill Howes, was a director of the Pullman Company and is also vice-president of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society.
