Model railway electrics are not one of the reviewer's pet subjects but, judging by the amount it is discussed in model railway magazines, it is of interest to many modellers and an essential subject to understand if you are building a layout. The great debate today is between DC and DCC but the book is particularly aimed at those interested in DC operation. A separate book in this series, which we have previously reviewed, deals with Digital Command Control. The book starts a square one for the absolute beginner and progresses through to more complicated issues. You can take it as far as you wish. It covers such subjects as cab control, point control, signalling, train detection and lighting. It is packed with coloured photographs and diagrams to make everything clear. At the back of the book there are instructions on building a continuity tester, a list of suppliers and a glossary. This is a very useful book for those starting out.
