The line covered by this volume, of the evolving ultimate rail encyclopaedia, dates from 1867 and starts at Barmouth, on the west coast of Wales and on the north bank of the Mawddarch estuary. From there, it follows the coast northwards until it reaches Minffordd and then Porthmadog. By now it has turned west and follows the south coast of the Lleyn Peninsula, to Pwllheli. In Middleton Press style the book has an interesting range of black and white photographs taken of the line over many years. They show the stations, the engines, rolling stock, diesel railcars, staff and passengers through the years. These are supported by 27 mainly Ordnance Survey maps, facsimile tickets and timetables as well as ticketing information, geographical notes and historical information. What more could a modeller of the line want? With the close proximity of the Ffestiniog Railway and the Welsh Highland Railway, this should prove to be an extra popular volume.
