The routes covered by this book all radiate from the famous racing town of Towcester and were formerly the network of the Stratford-on-Avon & Midland Joint Railway. This linked the Midland Railway lines in the West Midlands with those of the same company in the East Midlands. The longest of the branches headed due west to Broom Junction in Warwickshire and its extension east of Towcester met the Midland Railway again at Ravenstone Wood Junction, north-west of Olney, which is in Buckinghamshire. A further spur ran south-west, connecting with the LNWR at Cockley Brake Junction, East of Banbury and the shortest line ran north-east to Blisworth where it picked up the again LNWR, south of Northampton.
