These Ian Allan Illustrated Histories are becoming classic reference works and this volume covers Britain's most popular preserved line. The NYMR carries over 300,000 passengers each year and can trace its roots back to 1835 when it was horse-drawn. Part of the original route included a rope incline. The book contains a well researched history supported by 200 illustrations, plenty of maps, timetables, gradient profiles, track layout diagrams, a chronology of events, traffic returns, passenger statistics, locomotives and their allocations, a list of signal boxes and stations with distances, a large bibliography and an extensive index. This is a very useful book for anyone interested in this very appealing railway.
