This book follows the former Midland & Great Northern Railway (M&GN) route from the large railway centre at Peterborough to the ancient Norfolk port of King's Lynn. The story starts at Peterborough where can be seen the once extensive railway system, which resulted from the town's location on the route north from London and lying as it did in the path of traffic movements between the Northwest and Midlands to East Anglia. It was where five railway companies met before the Grouping in 1923. One of these was the M&GN. The through route between the two towns was completed in 1866, becoming part of the M&GN in 1893. It continued after 1923 jointly owned by the LMS and LNER but passed fully to the LNER in 1936.
The book contains photographs of each part of the route taken at various times in its history and the route is easy to follow with the Ordnance Survey map extracts provided. There is also ticketing information, ticket facsimiles and copies of timetables. As usual with these books, it provides a valuable study for anyone modelling the route.
