Diesels came early to the Eastern Region, arriving from the late 1950s onwards. Class 40s took over East Anglian expresses duties and DMUs came to dominate branch line passenger services. Deltics took over from the A4s on the expresses to the North and, for a while, Baby Deltics appeared on suburban trains, until replaced by DMUs. This book comes as a sequel to Diesels on the Southern and covers the period late 1950s to early 1970s. Diesels covered by this book have mainly gone, surviving only in smaller numbers on preserved lines and at railway heritage centres.
