The surprising thing about the Power Series by Ian Allan Publishing is that the books are not written to a set formula. Each appears to be presented in the author's choice of design. With The Power of the 20s, Pip Dunn has provide us with a long list of scenarios in which the Class 20 diesels have been found and the contents page serves as an index. Early chapters take you through the early years before dividing the subject into train types. From there he looks at some specific locations as well as special uses and Class 20s on shed. Visits abroad and foreign versions are also covered. It is disappointing that so many of the photos are in black and white but there are 16 pages of colour towards the back of the book. To his credit, the author has included a page of technical information as well as some photos providing close-up detail.
