It is interesting to note that both Bassett-Lowke in 1934 and Graham Farish in 1952 released just one American steam locomotive and in both cases the subject was chosen from the New York Central Railroad. For Graham Farish it had been an 00 gauge Hudson 4-6-4 and for Bassett-Lowke the subject had been none other than the J-3a Class 'Commodore Vanderbilt' in 0 gauge. The latter model was supplied by Marklin and the subject was the first American locomotive to receive streamlining.
This book is a sequel to a definitive history of the New York Central written by Brian Soloman in 1999 and incorporates much additional material. This is attractively presented as a history of the system, copiously illustrated with pictures taken over the years and with publicity material that has survived.
