Brunel

There have been many books published about Isambard Kingdom Brunel, particularly in the last few years but this one stands out amongst them as an excellent reference book. The book looks at his various projects, along with their chronologies, and contains a rich selection of illustrations, many of them dating from his time. It also has a 'time chart' of his life, a list of the achievements of his contemporaries, a chronology of important events in his lifetime, a year by year record of track mileage in Britain and, most importantly, what there is remaining to see today. There is a good section at the back of the book devoted to this last aspect along with sources for further study. All great value for a tenner!
