Because of its separation from the rest of the British rail network, the Isle of Wight railways have held a fascination with a lot of rail enthusiasts. The lines are (and were) short and mainly rural in nature and, until the end of steam, territory for small L&SWR and LB&SCR tank engines. These, therefore, dominate the pictures in the book which come from a number of sources. Another feature of the Isle of Wight network was the Victorian rolling stock and it was this, as much as the locomotives, that drew enthusiasts to the island in the early to mid 1960s when closure threatened on the recommendation of Dr Beeching. This is a wonderful record of those closing days and is bound to be a popular purchase.
