Widely thought to be Britain's greatest engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel made use of a range of materials and was one of few railway engineers in Britain to use wood in the construction of his bridges and viaducts. The book is an extensive study of this building method with extensive text supported by many photographs and drawings. The number of coloured photographs used is a lot higher than indicated above as the sepia prints have been counted as monochrome. There is extensive listing of bridges on each line including the type of construction, date built and other detail. There are also seven pages of reference notes at the back of the book, a glossary of terms and an abbreviations key. This book will surely become a classic.
