In 1987, the Irish government split the nationalised transport system (CIE) into three operating companies the railways forming Iarnrod Eireann (IE). Twenty years on, Tom Ferris looks at the progress of the latter. Low income and low investment of the past had created problems for the fledgling company. The changes since then have been remarkable and are well illustrated in this colour album. Many of the pictures were supplied by Iarnrod Eireann and the rest by individuals including the author. The foreword is by Dick Fearn, Chief Executive of Iarnrod Eireann.
