8 locomotives were built between 1882 and 1883. The Class were extensively rebuilt between 1914 and 1927. Six locomotives passed into LNER stock in October 1936. The first was withdrawn in 1936 and the last in May 1941

40 locomotives were built between 1894 and 1899. All passed into LNER ownership in October 1936. 17 locomotives were classified D52 Class, 6 locomotives D53 Class and 10 locomotives D54 Class The first was withdrawn in 1936 and the last in 1945

7 locomotives were built between September 1878 and October 1881. 4 were loaned to the Midland Railway in 1906. The first was withdrawn  in 1904 and the last was scrapped in 1953 having been used for re-railing exercises on the Woolmer Instructional Military Railway since 1917
