- 39 locomotives were built between 1864 and
1886. They were numbered 1 to 33 and 39 to 44. The first was withdrawn in 1905 and the
last was withdrawn for preservation in 1948. This locomotive, No.23 (L45), is preserved at
the London Transport Museum.

- 7 locomotives were built between 1896 and 1901. The first was withdrawn in 1935 and the last in
1963. After withdrawal the last locomotive, No.1 (L44), was retained so that it could
appear at the Underground centenary in 1963. It was then sold to the London Railway Preservation Society with whom it is
now based at Quainton Road. In recent
years No.1 has worked passenger services on the Metropolitan Line during London Undergrounds Steam on the Met
events

1962. After withdrawal the last locomotive, No.93 (L52), was retained so that it could

1964

locomotives were built in March 1925 by Armstrong Whitworth utilising parts from Maunsell
Class 2-6-0
locomotives stored at Woolwich Arsenal. The locomotives were sold to the LNER in November
1937 where they became the L2 Class. The first was withdrawn in January 1943 and the last,
by then owned by British Railways, in October 1948
