service in Europe
during the First World War with the Railway Operating Department (ROD) between 1917 and
1921. 108 locomotives saw service with the War Department during World War 2. 20
locomotives were rebuilt as 3901 Class 2-6-2Ts between February 1907 and January 1910 (see
3901 Class 2-6-2T). The first was withdrawn in January 1907 and the last in June 1954. 1
locomotive has been preserved

2884 Class (sometimes referred to as 38xx Class) locomotives were built between 1938 and
1942 and were fitted with side window cabs. These included the 38xx number series
sometimes incorrectly referred to as the 38xx Class. The first was withdrawn in November
1962 and the last in November 1965. 9 locomotives have been preserved
